Golf and Gardens
Golfers spend so much time on the green stuff (and sometimes in the not-so-green stuff) that it’s rare that a golfer doesn’t appreciate a garden. Some of the public gardens in France rival those anywhere in the world; they include those laid out in the formal style and the medieval gardens which provide herbs and vegetables to the landowners.Whether you choose your destination by merit of its gardens or its golf courses, we’ll combine the two to make your ideal Golf & Gardens holiday.
Normandy is renowned for its gardens – from Monet’s Gardens at Giverny to Les Jardins de Castillon and Les Jardins de la Mansoiere, Le Jardin Plume and Jardins d’Angelique. Northern France offers three hidden gems not too far from Le Touquet – Le Jardin des Lianes, Les Jardins de Maizicourt and Le Jardin de Sericourt.
The Loire is called the Garden of France and there are more gardens than golf courses with no fewer than 11 great gardens between Orleans and Tours. It’s the best place for a holiday involving chateaux, gardens and a bit of golf not forgetting the wine of course!
The Dordogne is probably the most special region in Europe for its gardens with nearly 20 gardens of repute including Les Jardins du Chateau de Caudon and Les Jardins d l’Imaginaire. What the Dordogne lacks in golf, it more than makes up for in beauty and interest. The South of France is like one giant, rugged and incredibly beautiful garden but Provence has two gardens of note: Les Jardins du Chateau Val Joanis and La Louve, both of which are within easy reach of Avignon and Aix en Provence
